Our Barnegat office offers pain management for southern and central Ocean County along the Route 9 corridor. If you live in Barnegat, Waretown or Forked River, it saves you a longer trip to Toms River or Manahawkin.

The office is at 249 South Main Street (Route 9), Suite 5, in Barnegat Township, across the street from Wells Fargo Bank and half a mile south of Bay Avenue. The Garden State Parkway is a few minutes west. Patients come from Barnegat and Waretown, Ocean Township, Forked River and Lacey Township, and from Manahawkin and Stafford Township to the south.

Barnegat is an interventional pain management office. Nurse practitioner Christina DiPaolo, MSN, APN, FNP-BC, sees patients here and works with our physicians. She and the GSMC pain team evaluate back, neck, joint and nerve pain and, when it makes sense, offer image-guided treatment. Common reasons for a visit include low back pain and sciatica, neck pain, knee and hip arthritis, spinal stenosis and nerve pain. We also see people after car accidents and work injuries.

At your first visit we review your history and imaging, examine you and explain what we think is causing the pain. Many plans begin with physical therapy, activity changes and medicines. When those are not enough, options may include image-guided injections, radiofrequency ablation or, for long-standing pain, stimulator therapy. Some procedures are scheduled at another GSMC location. We explain the risks and realistic expectations for each option, and results vary from person to person.

Many of our Barnegat patients are retirees, commuters on the Parkway and people who work outdoors, such as on the bay, in construction or in landscaping. Each brings different goals. Tell us which activities matter most, whether that is getting through a workday, walking the dog or sleeping through the night, and we will use those goals to judge whether a treatment is working. If you see a primary care doctor or physical therapist nearby, we coordinate with them. That is especially important if you take blood thinners or have diabetes, which can affect when and how procedures are done.
